Aasana Sequencing


How to construct a practice so that aasanas prepare for each other building up to our peak aasana, and using aasana to soften the effects of these more challenging postures. We must be careful to not get caught trying to know too much from the outside of our postures. Often times we may find ourselves trying to progress, struggling to do more and better postures.

Let us not be fooled to judge progress from the outside. It's the proper experience that we are looking for in our practice. This is not a linear progression but rather a removal of what has been blinding us all the while. Learning to practice to release the Self from bondage rather than to accomplish some physical goal is the focus of our workshops.

Understanding Counterpose

Who needs them and when. How to know how to choose counterposes for your own particular life situation. Specific counterposes for specific poses, is it always the same for everyone everyday? What happens if we don't use counterpose or even if we use the wrong counterpose for ourselves.

Do all Yoga schools make use of counterpose? Are the counterposes I've learned correct for my body, or is it just what everyone else was doing?

Let's refine this art for ourselves and learn how to take care of our body even if we caused strain to it in a difficult pose. In proper sense, an asana practice should counterpose our stresses and challenges we acquire from our job or sport activity.

In the absolute beginners course or the absolute beginners retreat we will study the general principles of counterpose and make our acquaintance with this unparalleled concomitant to our emerging practice.

In the intermediate course or the experienced beginners retreat we will cover a deeper understanding of counterpose for your own personal practice. Let's analyze the way you may already be using counterpose and study it's significance in your scheme of practice.

In a teachers workshops we will cover how to generalize and particularize for yourself and students this little understood art of counterpose.
